My Marathon Diary

Other than raising funds to find the cure for blood related cancers, what is my motivation for running a marathon? Is it to accomplish that life-long dream of completing a marathon? Or maybe, it is the pressure of dating someone who is training for her third marathon? I can't really tell you why exactly I'm training for this marathon.....but, I can tell you how I'm doing it.

20 miler Jitters!!

Here I am....two days before my last long run before the marathon, and I can't stop thinking about how hard those last two miles were on the 18-miler. How am I going to do two extra miles on top of that?! And then I stop myself. Am I really fretting over running 20 miles versus 18 miles? My friends who just started training for another marathon are losing sleep over their first 8-miler! And I few months ago, I was in their shoes!! How did I get here?

"Well, I would like to begin by thanking my family, my friends, and all my fans out there, without whose support, I couldn't have made it this far. Especially, I would like to thank my mom, my.........................."
...................................................................just kidding!

Getting back on track from my digression, I am indeed nervous about this run. And what about the 6.2 miles after that? How come one doesn't need any training for that? What if all my troubles start after mile 20 and I don't know how to deal with them. Shouldn't I be trained for a situation like that?! But then, hundreds of people complete their first marathon successfully, don't they? If they can do it, why can't I? As someone in my team put it the other day, maybe the marathon will feel like nothing more than just another long training run. Yeah, that seems like a pretty comforting thought.....let me just focus on making myself believe this for now.

And as you can imagine, amidst all this anziety and angst, I've had little time to worry about my fundraising. I really need to get the ball rolling as there are only a few days left for my fundraising deadline. So, dear "friends, family and countrymen, lend me your ears".....and your, money :-)

18 miler!

With both Peninsula and South Bay Run Teams attending, this regional run was the hardest training run of the season with the course touring them through beautiful and hilly Huddart and Edgewood Parks. It was an absolutely gorgeous day, which definitely made the run a whole lot better!
Later on both South Bay and Peninsula Teams got together at Woodside Elementary School for our famous Honoree potluck. It was a great way to get better acquainted with my team members and with our honorees. Who wants to be social after running 18 miles?.....you might ask. Well, we surely do! The turnout was amazing and the assortment of food was to die for. Some people say that they can't really eat after a long run....funny how I never seem to have that problem!
